What types of patients do you take to the Day Surgery unit from the OR and bypass the PACU? Does it depend on the type of surgery, patient or anesthetic? Does your hospital have a policy for this? What is this called?
The article by White; Current Opinion in Anesthesiology, volume 20 (6), December 2007,pages 545-557discusses "Fast-Track anesthetic techniques for ambulatory surgery". It provides a table that outlines a scoring system that may be used by anesth. to determine readiness to by pass PACU.
Fast tracking can be done if the patient meets discharge criteria in the OR (i.e. 9/10 Aldrete score meeting phase II criteria). Our pts post cataract Sx and endoscopy procedures, meet such criteria. (Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga)

This message is for Sue. Are you sure the journal date is December 2007? You wrote your comment before December. I would love to see this article.
