IV sedation

I am looking for some information regarding discharge following I/V sedation, in particular, do you require that the patient (who has received I/V sedation) have a responsible adult stay with them for 24 hours, or just an escort home?

Our facility policy for conscious sedation (whether it be in ER,Ambulatory Care or Surgery) are to instruct escort and responsible adult for 24 hours just as post anesthesia.

We instruct that a responsible adult remain with pt 24 hrs post IV sedation or GA
At RVH we this a blanket organizational policy to avoid variation in practices

Does anyone have policies or research to support that the escort must be fully capable of devoting one on one time with the post op patient, ie: a post pediatric dental surgery parent/escort must not have responsiblity of another child at the time of discharge?
