spinals

Does your facility have a policy re: how to assess the sensory levels and motor blockade for patients receiving "plain old spinals" (no narcotics)? If so, would you be able to share?

Thanking you in advance for any assistance you may offer,
Sue

We use the bromage scale to assess residual motor blockade.
Pts should score a zero to indicate full return of motor function. We assess sensory by touching the legs and assessing the corresponding dermatome.

Bromage scale;

0=No blockade (full flexion of legs and feet)
1=partial blockade remaining (able to move knees)
2= almost complete blockade (able to move feet)
3= complete blockade (no movement)
