discharge criteria

Can you share your discharge criteria from PACU?
What are your criteria for when a only porter needs accompany a patient to a ward bed (day surgery or inpatient) and when a nurse must be present?

thanks in advance,
Evelyn

All of our stable, adult patients are transferred with a porter after the nurse has provided the receiving unit with a verbal telephone report. The patients who are transferred with a PACU RN are normally only those who requiring cardiac monitoring (going to ICU/CCU/step down unit), with arterial lines, or paediatric patients.

A few years back the nurses were transferring patients, and this was poor use of a nurse's time; also leaving the unit with less staff while the PACU RN was on transfer.
